Webinar by Florian Schmid, City of Vienna
on the youtube channel of Biotope City Journal
Mini-forests, forest islands or so-called ‘Tiny Forests’ are currently on everyone’s lips. A few years ago, Vienna also began to explore the principles of the Miyawaki method for creating such urban forests.
In the fall of 2021, the first “Viennese forest” was planted in a densely built-up part of the city, covering an area of around 280m². One year later, five more locations were added. Florian Schmid has been coordinating the project since 2021 and reports on the experiences, challenges and initial growth successes of the Vienna ‘Tiny Forests.’
