Irene Zluwa (GRÜNSTATTGRAU) and Philipp Spörl (BOKU University) present the ESSBAR demonstration project. The aim of the project was to equip a multi-storey residential building from the 1980s in Karmarschgasse in Vienna’s Favoriten district with new balconies and integrated vertical beds as part of a thermal renovation.
These not only allow residents to grow edible plants directly in front of their apartments, but also enable resource-saving irrigation with rainwater collected on the roof and stored in an underground tank.
