Ingo Kowarik is full Professor for Ecosystem Science and Plant Ecology at the Technical University Berlin. He also has the following functions:

Coordinator of European Group on Biological Invasions NEOBIOTA, since 1999
Consultant to the Berlin Government for Nature Conservation and Landscape Planning
Chairman of the advisory council of Nature Conservation and Landscape Planning in Berlin, since 2001
Member of Scientific Committee of DIVERSITAS Germany, since 2003
Coordinator of Urban Ecology specialist group of the Ecological Society of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, 2000-2003
Member of the advisory councils of “Industriewald Ruhrgebiet”, since 2003; “Schloßpark Glienicke, since 2003; and “Schlosspark Babelsberg”, until 2002Member of editorial boards of Neobiota (editor), Urban Forestry and Greening, Tuexenia, Natur und Landschaft, and Verhandlungen des Botanischen Vereins von Berlin und Brandenburg

Since 1999 Full Professor for Ecosystem Science and Plant Ecology at the Technical University Berlin, 1992-1999 Professor for Applied Plant Ecology at the University of Hanover, 1992 Habilitation in Vegetation Science at the Technical University Berlin, 1989-1992 Postdoctoral research fellow at the Technical University Berlin, 1988 PhD at the Technical University Berlin, 1986-1992 Consultant for ecological projects (brownfield development and nature conservation), 1982-1987 Scientific assistant and lecturer at the chair of Ecosystem Sciences at the Technical University Berlin, 1981 Diploma in Landscape planning at the Technical University Berlin
